Kindergarten

Children attending our Kindergarten have the opportunity to learn new skills, build, manipulate, make choices, practice peace, promote self-discipline, develop a sense of self and love of learning.  Many hands-on experiences with stimulating materials are provided.  The kindergartner is encouraged to explore many different activities and learning centers.  Teacher directed time focuses on a phonic based reading/writing readiness program, as well as vocabulary development and literature rich stories and activities.  Our math program uses a manipulative approach to teach many math concepts.

KinderClub

KinderClub is a special enrichment program created specifically for children enrolled in half-day kindergarten programs in other schools.  The program is offered mornings and afternoons.  KinderClub students are provided a relaxing educational environment utilizing whole group activities, individual projects and learning centers.  Children become totally immersed in these activities with their teachers and their peers.  Our program promotes a love of learning, positive interaction with peers and a healthy sense of oneself in relationship with the world.

Transportation is provided to some area schools.

Preschool

For three, four and five-year-olds, we offer a half-day program that encourages your child to explore at his/her own developmental pace.  Young children are offered a warm, nurturing environment to explore God's world, friends and nurture their Christian spirit.  The primary goal of the Preschool is to create an environment in which each child can grow spiritually, physically, socially, cognitively and emotionally.  School readiness skills in language arts and math are introduced through a developmentally appropriate environment.  As a result of his or her first educational experience, they are equipped with Christian love, self-confidence, a sense of wonder and love of learning.

Afternoon Enrichment

This program is created to provide children, who are developmentally ready, with a longer day and to support families who, due to time constraints, will benefit from their child attending Preschool longer hours each day.  This class is designed to provide extended opportunities for children to fully engage in their surroundings and educational materials, while spending additional hours of enjoyment with their peers.  Through the course of a year, the children will explore several child led units that are different and distinct form the morning program, as well as having time to expand upon units they enjoyed in the morning program.

Children's Day Out

The goal of the First Presbyterian Children's Day Out is to provide young children the opportunity to have a positive first time experience with their peers and to bond with other adults.  Small class size and experienced teachers make this adventure educational and beneficial to your child, fostering a love of learning.  We provide a safe, secure, nurturing environment so these young children may developmentally explore at his/her own pace.  Children attending Children's Day Out must be one-year-old by September 1st.

Bible Time

The Early Childhood Program is a mission of the First Presbyterian Church of Edmond and as such we recognize the spiritual side in all of us, the need to know God, to know that He is personally involved in the world and in each of our lives.  All children will be attending Bible Time.  Preschool and Kindergarten children will attend once per week and Children's Day Out will attend every other week.

God's creation of the world and all of the beauty within is discussed at length.  His love and care for each person is always emphasized.  Prayer is an integral part of our Bible Time.  The teachers pray and the children are given many opportunities to pray, as well.  Jesus, as the Son of God, is introduced during Bible Time.  He is originally studied as an infant, when the incredible events surrounding the first Christmas are remembered and taught; and then, as a child and as an adult who loved the world and healed people and said, "Let the children come unto me".  At Easter, it is emphasized that Jesus is alive and loves us still today.

Stretch-N-Grow

The Stretch-N-Grow program is designed to promote exercise and wellness for preschool children.  It assists parents and teachers in developing good health and fitness habits in young children.  The program is taught by well trained Stretch-n-Grow coaches.

Stretch-n-Grow kids participate every week in activities and discussions on health and other related issues such as nutrition, hygiene and safety.  Kids have lots of fun while they learn to enjoy exercise and build good habits.  The goal is to give children a strong foundation for a lifetime of exercise and fitness habits that will result in good health, strength and positive attitudes.  Children will participate in a 30 minute session which consists of warm-up, stretching, floor exercise and low aerobic activity, all designed for young children.  Our Stretch-n-Grow classes are conducted Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays in the afternoons during enrichment.
